Medifast Weight Loss Program Reports Record Third Quarter 2009 Financial Results

I started my Medifast weight loss journey back on June 4th 2009.  After the first three weeks I lost 15 lbs and was so excited.  I told my husband about the company and ask if he would look into buying me shares of their stock.  He called our broker and I added MED to my portfolio.  It’s been fun watching the stock rise.  In the mean time I decided this program could help so many people like myself that I signed up to become a Take Shape For Life Health Coach.  I have been adding clients and building my own home business.  My clients are all doing great on the program and I really enjoy working with them.

Today the Medifast company reported their earnings and you have to read how they did.  This is so exciting to be part of a company with such growth in today’s economy.

This company grows bigger by making people smaller.

Here’s the report as posted on MSN Money

MED, a provider of leading clinically proven portion-controlled weight-loss programs, announced today third quarter financial results for the period ended September 30, 2009. Third Quarter 2009 highlights included: Third quarter revenues increased 65% to $45.0 million, compared to 2008;Diluted EPS for the quarter increased 109% to $0.23 versus $0.11 year-over-year;Direct sales segment, Take Shape for Life, increased sales 105% year-over-year for the quarter; Medifast Weight Control Centers quarterly revenues increased 106%;Direct response quarterly revenues increased 14% versus a year ago; Operating margins improve to 12.4% versus 8.8% in the comparable quarter;Generated Free Cash Flow of $5.3 million. For the third quarter ended September 30, 2009, Medifast reported revenue of $45.0 million, a 65% increase over the $27.3 million reported in the third quarter of 2008. The Company reported net income of $3.4 million, or $0.23 per fully diluted share, compared with $1.5 million, or $0.11 per fully diluted share in the third quarter of 2008, a diluted EPS increase of 109%. For the nine months ended September 30, 2009, Medifast reported revenue of $119.4 million, an increase of 49% from the $80.0 million reported for the nine months ended September 30, 2008. The Company reported net income of $8.9 million, or $0.60 per fully diluted share, for the nine month period, versus $4.5 million, or $0.32 per fully diluted share, in 2008. “We are extremely pleased to report yet another quarter of record revenues and net income,” commented Michael S. McDevitt, Chief Executive Officer of Medifast, Inc. “The Medifast program is clearly resonating with consumers as a strong value proposition with the best possible support options for rapid and safe weight loss, as well as the recommendation of 20,000 physicians over 30 years. The growth reported in our direct sales, direct response and clinics segments re-enforces our belief that the outlook for all distribution channels remains strong.” Revenues in the direct sales segment, Take Shape for Life, increased 105% to $27.9 million compared with $13.6 million in the same quarter of 2008. Revenue growth was driven by an increase in the number of active health coaches, which resulted in increased customer product sales. The number of active health coaches during the third quarter increased to approximately 5,800 compared with 3,200 during the period a year ago, an increase of 81% and up from 4,650 at the end of the second quarter of 2009. The net increase of 1,150 health coaches during the quarter is a record for the company and should lead to continued strong growth in the segment. The growth in Take Shape for Life is a result of the hard work, commitment and passion of our coaches. To help fuel this growth, the Company continued to improve tools and training, particularly during its July 2009 National Convention. The unique opportunity to supplement income while helping family, friends and associates improve their quality of life continues to gain significant traction. During the second quarter, sales in the Company’s direct response segment experienced growth of 14% during the quarter to $12.2 million compared with $10.6 million a year ago. This is the first year-over-year increase in five quarters for the direct response segment, as diligent controls of the revenue-to-spend metric, which measures advertising effectiveness, cultivated a 2.7 to 1 ratio for the third quarter, compared with 2.5 to 1 a year ago on an advertising spend increase of $200,000. The increase in the revenue-to-spend metric, coupled with the increase in advertising spend, provided tremendous margin improvement for the segment. Medifast Direct’s continued improvement in its advertising effectiveness was primarily attributable to several factors to including a more focused print campaign, continued improvements in the contact center conversion rates, and the use of its customized web analytics tool, C3 Metrics, implemented this time last year, which allows the Company to more accurately track originating clicks and customer conversion related to our web spending. The Company reported record revenues in its Medifast Weight Control Centers segment of $4.5 million, a 106% increase compared to the third quarter of a year ago, driven by strong same-store sales and new clinics opened during the year. Same-store sales increased 20% for the quarter compared to the third quarter of 2008 for clinics open greater than one year, as a result of effective advertising and increased closing rates. With the growth being experienced by its corporate clinics and franchisees, management expects continued future growth in the Medifast Weight Control Centers channel and will focus on building the best internal infrastructure to support this market segment. With a foundation of proven clinical results and physician support, products and programs that deliver rapid, guaranteed weight loss coupled with accountability and support, consumers are embracing the unique value offered by Medifast Weight Control Centers. Ms. Meg Sheetz, President and COO of Medifast, Inc. commented, “Gross margins during the first nine months of 2009 have increased to 76.1% compared to 75.9% a year ago. Operating margins improved significantly during the third quarter to 12.4% compared to 8.8% in the third quarter of last year as we continue to experience the benefits of our vertically integrated business model and see improvement in our advertising effectiveness ratios.” The Company’s balance sheet remains strong with stockholders’ equity of $48.4 million and working capital of $25.5 million as of September 30, 2009. Cash and cash equivalents increased by $5.3 million to $16.3 million at the end of the quarter as a result of operating cash flows, reduction in inventory on hand due to improved functionality and forecasting in our ERP system, and a decrease in capital expenditures. Colonel Brad MacDonald, USMC (Ret.), chairman of the Board of Directors of Medifast, Inc. commented, “The Board of Directors of Medifast is very pleased with the performance of our executive team and the Medifast organization for their execution of the 2009 business plan in a very tough economic environment. The Company eclipsed a milestone by posting its 40th consecutive quarter of profitability. We will continue in our goal of getting America healthy.” Mr. McDevitt concluded, “I would like to extend my thanks to our partners, health coaches and franchisees. Our multi-channel distribution model is designed to provide the best customer support systems and we appreciate their partnership in helping to meet our customers’ needs for their continued success in sustainable weight loss and improved health. ”

Congratulations if you made it all the way down here:)  Take Shape for Life is the best set up company I have ever worked with.  The Medifast program is a sound proven program that has worked for 30 years.  I’m so glad I found them when I did and I look forward to spreading the word and helping others.

Medifast 5&1 Weight Loss Plan YouTube Video Swimsuit Photo Journal

Medifast 5&1 Weight Loss Plan YouTube Video Swimsuit Photo Journal

It has taken my 19 weeks to work up the courage to post my progress photos.  I never even told anyone how much I weighed when I started out.  While I still feel some embarrassment with the numbers and how I looked I think it’s very important for anyone starting a weight loss journey to document their progress with photos, measurements, and a daily food journal.

I have learned so many things by looking at these photos.  I knew I didn’t like the way I looked but when I look at these pictures I can’t believe how large I really was.  Looking out of my eyes and in a mirror or down at my body I was getting a distorted view.  Was the distortion coming from my perspective or from my mind? I’m really not sure.

Now I wonder how other people saw me.  One close friend I saw every week at church said she didn’t notice my weight loss.  In fact no one ever came up to me and mentioned it.  Was that because they didn’t notice or were worried that maybe I was ill or something?  I don’t know.

While I was in the “growing stage” in my mind I still thought I was smaller.  I remember trying to squeeze through tight spaces and not fitting or sitting in a chair and having it feel too small.  I was shocked the first time I tried to cross my arms and I couldn’t and forget about crossing my legs. It’s amazing the limitations my weight had caused.

Not to mention the lack of energy I had and the feeling of not wanting to be seen.  Who wouldn’t get tired carring around an extra 54 pounds day and night?

While I hope that my photos will give hope to others who want to start a journey of their own. I will keep them close by as a reminder of where I was and where I am today. They are a symbol of where I don’t ever want to be again.

If you would like help in your journey to weight loss and good health I would love to be your mentor.

So it’s getting close to the end of the year. Only 10 more weeks left in 2009. Do you remember way back in January when you said you would lose weight this year? Then a few weeks went by and you gave up entirely on your New Year’s Resolution.

Well,I have good news for you, you still have time. It’s not too late to lose weight in 2009. In fact you can be looking good by New Year’s Eve. Wouldn’t you feel Great if you could end this year with weight loss checked off your list?

I’m so thankful that this past summer I found the Secret to fast, safe weight loss. So far I have lost 54 lbs and I look and feel so much better. This program has been used by 20,000 doctors over the past 30 years so it’s not some fad diet. On average clients lose 2-5 lbs of FAT a week while retaining their muscle.

If you are average and follow the program you could be 20-50 pounds lighter by the end of the year.

I’m looking for 3 new clients to work with right now. You have to be able to eat every 2-3 hours. You must be totally committed to working the program. I will coach you every step of the way for FREE.

Medifast Maryland Crab Soup Meal Replacement

Medifast Maryland Crab Soup Meal Replacement

MedifastCrabSoup

Today I tried Medifast’s Maryland Crab Soup.  I really enjoyed it!  I do like fish and sea food and there is really crab in this soup.  It tastes great and will add more variety to my Medifast food plan.

Like with all the soups I reccomend heating just the water first, then add the soup mix to the hot water and let it sit to rehydrate all the ingredients. You can also mix it up and keep it in the frig till you’re ready to reheat and eat it.  Even the day before will work fine.

When I started the program back in June the thought of hot soup really didn’t sound very good so I would let it cool down and have cold soup which was still very good.  Now that we have had our first snow here in North Central Wisconsin the thought of a good hot bowl of soup sounds great.

My two soup  favorites right now are the Broccoli and the Maryland Crab.  Stay tuned for more Medifast Food reviews.

Medifast’s Newest Meal Replacement Options

Medifast’s Newest Meal Replacement Options

Medifast puffs and pretzels

Medifast has added four new meals to their 5&1 Plan.  Two flavors of pretzels and two flavors of cheese puffs.

First I tried the Pretzels, Honey Mustard and Cinnamon. I liked them both but felt they were a little too hard for me to chew on.  Because of my dental work and a past history with store bought pretzels I tend to be overly cautious.  So give them a try for yourself.

The thing I love about them is they are very easy to eat on the go and they won’t melt if left in a hot car.

Next I moved onto the cheese puffs, Nacho and Parmesan.  I loved them both.  The Nacho Puffs have a bit of zip to them and the Parmesan remind me of croutons, yum!  They have a great crunch to them.

Once again Medifast has listened to what their clients were wanting and came up with several great options to get crunch into their meal plan.

Enhance the flavors of coffee, water and your Medifast shakes and meals with Capella Flavor Drops.

I know when I started on the Medifast program my first disapointment was no more flavored creamers in my coffee.  Even the sugarfree ones are too high in calories.  So I had to search for some other solutions and that’s when I came across Capella Flavor Drops.

No Sugar

No Sweeteners

No Fats

No Carbs

No Calories

No Caffeine

No Gluten

They are perfect to use on the Medifast Plan.  The bottles are so small you can carry them in your purse and be ready for a coffee break with friends anytime.

This time of year I start to crave Pumpkin Spice Coffee and Capella has Pumpkin Pie Spice Flavor Drops.  Just 3-5 drops per 8 oz of coffee.  One little bottle has 120 servings so you can treat your friends too. Now I don’t miss the creamer because I get all the flavor I crave without the fat and calories.

They have so many flavors to try.  How about Root Beer Float drops in your vanilla shake?  Or Amarreto Drops in your coffee.  Cool mint drops are great in the  hot cocoa. For the holidays try Egg Nog drops in vanilla pudding.

They also have flavor Drops for water in fruit flavors and mint.

If you want more sweetness you can add your favorite sugarfree sweetner too.

Celebrating my BIG 50 with Medifast and Take Shape For Life

With Medifast I have lost 50 Pounds So Far

With Medifast I have lost 50 Pounds So Far

50lbsofsugar

Today is NOT my regular weigh in day. I do weigh myself everyday but I only record it on Thursdays. Last Thursday I was down 49 pounds so I was just waiting for that magic one pound loss so I would be at an even 50.  Today was the day 50 pounds lost in 16 and a half weeks.

If you read this blog you may know my story if not here it is in a nut shell.  I tried for seven years after ovarian cancer surgery to loss weight.  Maybe I should say I tried everything to stop gaining weight.  Every season I would have to go buy new clothes in larger sizes.  Nothing worked I couldn’t even loss ONE pound, just kept gaining.  The doctors had no answers for me and I went to sevral.  Still I kept trying and working at it.  After my doctor doubled my cholesterol meds my liver enzymes elevated and she wanted to add yet another cholesterol med.  I said give me 3 months and I’ll come up with something.

When I went back in not only had I lost weight but my cholesterol test was so good she took me off my meds. She wanted to know what I did and I told her all about Medifast.  It’s been around for 30 years but there are a lot of people that have never heard of it before and I was one of them.

Medifast was the answer to my prayers and I now am using what I know to help others to lose weight and get healthy too. As a Take Shape For Life Health Coach I offer my coaching service FREE of charge to clients wanting to lose weight and learn how to keep it off for life.

I love Medifast because it works!
