New Parents lose 80 lbs combined on our weight loss/ optimal health program

6 October 2013

Shane and Susan have lost 80 lbs total combined and kept it off for over 3 years and Shane’s blood pressure is now within a healthy range.  After Susan had their second child she tried to get back to her pre-pregnancy weight by exercising 5-6 days a week with little success and had lost hope believing this was her new reality.  This program has not only helped them get to a healthy weight…it has helped them create the lifestyle and habits to keep the weight off.  They are now thriving in all areas of their life and have the energy to be active with their kids…biking, swimming and on the fields coaching their sports teams!

Weight Loss portion Control salad dressing

18 June 2013

I’m Certified Health Coach Natalie Jo and our our program it’s very important to be very accurate with servings of condiments.  Check this out, a super simple way to measure out a serving of salad dressing each and every time.

Dispense one serving at a time. Condiments are frequently over used adding empty
calories to foods and leaving pools of uneaten dressing at each meal. The
Healthy Steps Portion Lid measures and dispenses one serving of dressing so you
can be confident in your portion sizes and yourself. BPA-free. Fits most store
bought condiment bottles, use with: Salad dressing, Mayonnaise, Ketchup, BBQ
sauce and more. How to use: Replace existing condiment lid with the Portion Lid.
Turn Portion Lid to condiment type indicator on lid. Squeeze bottle to fill
single serving chamber. Open Portion Lid and pull chamber edges toward bottom of
bottle to dispense. Remove Portion Lid when bottle is empty, wash before reuse.
Top rack dishwasher safe.

Let me know what you think.  Do you have an easy way to make sure you are getting the correct amount of dressing?  Please share with a comment below.

My Spring Clean Bill of Health Started with an 80 lb Weight Loss

1 June 2013

June 4 2011 side w date BA

Instead of Spring Cleaning our house this year I used Spring 2013 to create a “Clean Sweep” of Health for myself. Over the past few years I have spent a lot of time in doctor offices dealing with my Mother’s health issues and during that time I neglected my own health maintenance visits.

I was feeling wonderful still maintaining my 80 lb weight loss for over 3 years. I had lots of energy and felt great so why fix what wasn’t broken? My mom is now getting more assistance in her new home so I took the time to start making my appointments.

  • Visit one was the GP for a regular visit, blood tests and pap. I passed with flying colors with a slight change on my thyroid med.

  • Visit two the mammogram. Since I’m an ovarian cancer survivor they have to read my pictures while I’m still in the office. They came back and took a few extra shots and then I was told all is well and could leave.

  • Visit three the eye doctor. Remembering during the visit of a past issue he wanted to dilate again but I had a presentation to do so I made another appointment.

  • Visit four I returned to the eye doctor a few weeks later on a sunny day. Lucky me I need to have twice the drops in each eye since I have small pupils that are hard to dilate. The drops alone are very uncomfortable and then he starts shinning a flashlight in each eye and says to keep my eye open wide. WOW! I told him that this is more painful than the mammogram I just had. He said no one ever told him that before. But once again I was fine and OK to go.

  • Visit five the BIG one. Because I was now over 50 I needed to have my colonoscopy. It wasn’t my first. I’ll never forget my first because my prep was on 911 and the procedure was the day after 9-12. As they all say the prep is the worse. I did ask a few questions because if I don’t eat every 3 hours I get rather ill from a blood sugar drop. Something I dealt with in my teens and then not again till after I lost my weight. Since I eat ever three hours while awake I never have issues unless I need to fast for a test or surgery. The doctor said I could have clear liquids up until 3 am. So I spent Tuesday night and Wed on clear liquids doing all the prep steps. I stared feeling bad at church Wed afternoon but found a sugar packet down by the coffee maker and mixed it with water and felt ok to drive back home. I continued with the prep went to bed at 10 and woke at 3. I felt bad in the bathroom but make it back to the bed. Woke an hour later made it to the bathroom and found myself on my knees on the floor. Sat back on the seat, felt better so I wanted to get back to bed. Got to the sink and the next thing I know my husband is knocking on the door asking if I was alright. I was on the floor out of it. I couldn’t move or talk and I was laying in front of the door. I had fallen backwards hit my head and back on the glass shower door and my head was wedged in the corner between the tub and door. The loud noise of me falling woke him up. My husband was able to squeeze into the room and got me some sugar water and back into the bed. My appointment was at 8:15 and they were running late I got in at 9:45 they checked my sugar and said it was ok and went ahead with the procedure. No issues clean as a whistle. Check that one off my list.

  • Visit six was the dentist. Not always a fun place to go but I do enjoy the people working there. X rays and cleaning and the once over from the dentist and I was OK to go for another 6 months.

So today June 1st I’m happy to report that I passed all my health check ups and I’m looking forward to a fun and busy summer. Like most people I have had to deal with some health issues in the past but since starting my weight loss journey back in June of 2009 I have really become aware of how important taking responsibility for my health really is. I feel great and I’m enjoying life.

Vacation Exercise Me and My FitBit

20 August 2012

We ended each day with the sunset on top of Brockway MT.

I just got back from 1 week camping in Copper Harbor on the Keweenaw Peninsula in the UP of MI. I never hiked so much in my entire life. 80 lbs ago I would have never been able to do it.  My husband goes to CO every Sept to hike the 14’s but I stay home. So he is the expert.

On this trip I had my fitbit on everyday and we both did the same hikes just the two of us.  Most days we never saw another hiker.  We hiked different trails everyday. It’s a great place for hiking and biking.

Here are my totals for sun Aug 11th -19th

107,420 steps

554 floors up

47.78 miles

Plus 12 miles of bike riding the fitbit doesn’t add that in but I have a computer on the bike.

For some reason I thought the hiking was easier then the bike riding maybe because of the hills or wind.

My muscles or feet never hurt and each morning we got up and found new trails. We picked up a great book that helped us to locate each trail and yes we still did get lost some days but that made it exciting.

I’m not one to have fun exercising and some days the Mountains were no fun but I enjoy taking photos along the way. I’m very proud that I could do it am I’m thankful for the life I have now at goal over 2 1/2 years.

Here we hiked up a cliff to an old railroad bridge to get a good shot of the waterfall.

Here we biked to the beginning of HWY 41 where it starts In Copper Harbor UP MI and you can follow it 1990 miles all the way to the other end in Miami FL.

I loved it up there no cell reception unless you were on top of the MT. The internet reminded me of the good old days when you were kept waiting for every page to load.

I’m Coach NatalieJo and I want to help you too!

If this is not the first time you have visited my site you may notice I made some changes.  Because of rule changes Health Coaches private sites must now be unbranded. No mention of the program names can be used.  So this is now a generic site.  Many of my past posts and audios are now only avaliable for my personal clients in the For My Client Only tab. They would have been too hard to remove all the trade names. Don’t leave just yet.

You can still gather a wealth of information from my posts and you can always contact me if you are interested in THIS PROGRAM. My clients will have full password protected access to all my resources that I have posted over the past 3 years.

I’m Coach NatalieJo and I lost 80 lbs and I have kept if off for over 2 years.  Read MY Story from the tab up top.  If changing your life is something you are interested in doing.  I would love to speak with you and answer all your questions.  This program works.  It’s been around for 30 years. It’s a no brainer.  You eat every three hours and have no hunger or cravings.  You will be learning good healthy habits that will keep you on track for the rest of your life.

FitBit My New Best Friend For Exercise

17 April 2012

Click the FitBit above to take you to a store to purchase it.

First let me say I don’t like exercise.  I lost 80 pounds and have kept it off for over two years.  That was my first journey and now I’m looking for activities I like to do to keep me in shape.

Recently I have seen a lot of talk about this new little pedometer the FitBit.  People claim it gets them moving and working harder. I saw it in the Target flyer this week so I ran out and got one last night.

My first test was wearing it to bed. It tracks your sleep don’t ask me how.  It said I woke up 5 times and I walked 46 steps. As far as I know I never stepped foot out of bed so I don’t know where the steps came from but I scored 98% on my sleep.  There is a website where you track and enter info.  You can set goals, list what you ate and it will track calories consumed and burned.

Well today just for fun I asked my husband to drive me up Rib Mountain so I could climb the look out tower and see how many flights of stairs it would track.  To my surprise it even tracked the walk up the hill to the tower how does it do that?  When I got to the top I had 18 flights of stairs.  When I got home I had an email from FitBit.  I earned my first badge.

How cool was that.  By looking at the site I found I could earn another badge for 25 flights good thing we have stairs in the house so I ran up and down them a bunch of times and I got my second badge of the day before bed.

I did real well on my climbing 250 feet up.  My total steps were only 4000 so far.  They say you should aim for 10,000 per day. I’ll have to work up to that. FitBit also has a social side where you can make friends and compare scores.  On our weight loss site they are walking across the US as a team virtually with FitBit.

So my first day using the FitBit has been a success.  I got in more stairs than I would have.  I’m having fun learning all the tools on the site and I think it will be a great tool to make my daily activity measurable and fun!

Update before I went to bed I just had to get a steps badge for 5000 steps I was only a few hundred steps away so I went walking around the house up and down stairs in circles.  Glad noone was watching and I got to 5000 steps.  Here’s my badge to prove it.

I never thought a little gadget likt this FitBit would have me walking all over the house at 11:30 pm just to get an email badge sent to me.  Who knew something as simple as that could do so much?
